Jama' & Qasar
When travelling to a distant place, sometimes it's hard to make a stop, to find a place to pray anf to take wudhu. There will be lots of complication on certain journey. But Islam is easy, it is wajib for us to perform our 5 prayer but there is looseness to ease our journey.
When we are traveling as a musafir, no matter where our destination is (unless the place is haram) we can perform solat jama' and qasar. I will discuss about how to perform the prayers in another post. This topic will talk more on what jama' and qasar is and what are the benefits of it.
Jama' means "collect/gather" or "merge". Meaning that a musafir would gather 2 prayer at one period of prayer. What do I mean by that? It means, if you are travelling and it's 1:30 p.m, you can perform Zohor and Asar eventhough it's not Asar yet. However, it doesn't mean that you can simply gather any two prayer whichever you like. Subuh cannot be gather with other prayer. You can only gather Zohor and Asar or Maghrib and Isyak.
Meanwhile, qasar means to "simplify" or "shortened". This means that when we travel a 4 rakaat prayer can be shortened to 2 rakaat. This implies to ONLY Zohor, Asar and Isyak. You may not qasar for Subuh and Maghrib.
Extra: Usually, those who travel wpuld combine Jama' and Qasar. Which means they combine the prayers and shortened its rakaat.
